Homemade Apple Pie Recipe

The traditional dessert apple pie is created with a flaky pastry crust filled with soft apple slices that are frequently seasoned with cinnamon and sugar.   • 2 pre-made pie crusts or make your own
  • 6-7 cups of peeled cored, and sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • Optional: a sprinkle of sugar for dusting


Prepare the Pie Crust:

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish, following the package instructions or your homemade crust recipe.

Prepare the Filling:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

Fill the Pie:

  • Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust in the dish.
  • Dot the top with small pieces of butter to add richness.

Top with the Second Crust:

  • Place the second pie crust over the filling.
  • Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal the pie.


  • Cut a few small slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

Egg Wash:

  • Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top crust for a shiny finish.


  • Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown, and the filling is bubbling.

Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the apple pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving. This helps the filling set.
