Ingredients

For the Meatloaf:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef you can also use a mixture of ground beef and ground pork or ground turkey
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped bell pepper green or red
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano optional

For the Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  • 350°F (175°C) should be the oven’s temperature.
  • Milk and breadcrumbs should be combined in a small basin. Allow the breadcrumbs to soak in the milk by letting them sit for a while.
  • Mix the ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, finely sliced bell pepper, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, beaten eggs, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, thyme, and oregano (if using) in a large mixing bowl. Combine all of the ingredients thoroughly. Use your hands to mix the ingredients, but don’t overdo it or the meatloaf will become tough.
  • In a baking dish or on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper, form the meat mixture into a loaf.
  • Combine the ingredients for the glaze in a small bowl: Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and 1/4 cup ketchup. This glaze should be applied evenly to the meatloaf’s top.
  • The meatloaf should be baked in the preheated oven for roughly an hour, or until it reaches a temperature of 160°F (71°C) inside. To check the temperature, use a meat thermometer.
  • When the meatloaf is finished cooking, take it out of the oven and allow it cool before slicing.
  • With your preferred side dishes, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, or a salad, slice the meatloaf and serve it.
