Ingredients

  • For the Patties:
  • 1/2 pound 225 grams ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For Assembling the Burgers:
  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 2 slices of cheese American, cheddar, or your choice
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Pickles optional
  • Ketchup and mustard or your favorite condiments

Instructions

  • Heat a skillet on the hob or the grill to medium-high heat. Before you begin cooking, make sure it is hot.
  • Divide the ground beef into two equal amounts while the grill or skillet is heating. Gently form each portion into burger patties that are about 1/2 inch thick. To keep the meat soft, handle it as little as possible. Salt and pepper should be used to season the patties on both sides.
  • Burger patties should be placed on a heated grill or skillet. Without pressing down on them, cook for about 3–4 minutes on one side. The liquids will leak if you press down, making the burger less juicy.
  • For medium-rare burgers, flip the patties over and cook for an additional 3–4 minutes. If you prefer your burgers well-done, cook them longer. If you’re adding cheese, top each patty with a piece about a minute before they’re done cooking so it can melt.
  • Split the hamburger buns and toast them on the grill or in a toaster while the burgers are cooking.
  • Create the burgers by stacking a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and an onion slice on the bottom of each bun. On top, place the cooked patties, with or without cheese. if desired, include pickles. On the top bun, spread mustard and ketchup or another sauce of your choice.
  • To finish the burger, place the top bun on top of the prepared ingredients.
  • Serve your traditional hamburgers right away with your choice of sides, such as fries, coleslaw, or a straightforward green salad. Enjoy!
